VAUGHAN, ON – Nominations are now being accepted for the second annual R.A.V.E. (Recognizing Arts Vaughan Excellence) Awards. Developed by the City, these Awards formally recognize the significant contributions of individuals, businesses and organizations which enhance the vitality of the visual, performing and literary arts in Vaughan.
“I am pleased to announce the call for entries for the second annual R.A.V.E. Awards,” said Sandra Yeung Racco, Chair of the Vaughan Arts Advisory Committee. “These awards were created to enhance and stimulate the artistic landscape within the City of Vaughan. Last year produced some very successful winners, and I anticipate that this year, the number of award nominees will increase. I encourage everyone to consider the nomination process, in view of the fact that there are so many outstanding artists, art educators and philanthropists here in Vaughan.”
Nominations must involve the visual, performing, or literary arts. Within each discipline, nominations may be made in one of the following categories: Patron of the Arts, Art Educator/Mentor, Practicing Artist or Rising Star. The deadline for nomination packages is February 19, 2010.
A panel of professionals will evaluate the nominations on the following merits: dedication to the arts, artistic creativity, artistic quality, leadership or innovation, artistic recognition and achievement, and community impact. R.A.V.E. Award winners will be announced in advance of the formal R.A.V.E. Award Reception to be held on June 24, 2010.
“The R.A.V.E. Awards helps achieve the City’s goal to support diversity, arts and culture, as outlined in Vaughan Vision 2020,” said Mayor Linda Jackson. “The competition is just one way we recognize the rich pool of artistic talent that exists in Vaughan.”
